The Dry Creek Bed
The dry creek bed, or dry river bed, is very popular throughout the country. The Pacific Northwest has a large out of doors community, that incorporating the dry river bed into the landscape is almost second nature in landscaping. It is a halfway point of having a water feature, like a ecosystem koi pond or even a pondless waterfal. Bringing this aspect to the Vancouver landscaping is like bring a little bit of the wilderness to your front door.
Why not just a waterfall?
A full water feature, be it a pond full of koi, or something more manageable like a pondless waterfall, can be cost prohibitive. With a dry creek, you can get the look of a stream, without the maintenance required of it. You can also stretch your budget by opting for a dry creek, rather than a wet one.
What does a dry creek cost?
As with any landscaping project, especially custom landscaping, a consultation is required to present a proposal. Your own personal vision can drastically alter a price. As can be seen in the pictures below, a variety of rock sizes, from 1' river rock, up to boulders, can change the overall look of a dry creek river bed. As can the addition of plants, flowers, and ornamental grasses. Many homeowners incorporate small foot bridges across a dry river bed. With all these options, price can fluctuate from $12 per foot, upwards to $36 a foot. So even a small riverbed, only 3-feet wide, running the 25-foot length of a driveway in a front yard can have a price of $900 or a price over $2,000. This is why a consultation is important. To go over your vision, goal, and budget.
